History of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is an earliest school of medicines known to humans.

The Vedic science of life is more than 5000 years old medicine, revealed by God of Ayurveda Dhanwantri, incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The Sanskrit word Ayurveda has two roots Ayur meaning Life and Veda meaning Knowledge. The systematic collection of health and healing knowledge encompassing all aspects of life and daily living. It contents the fields of Biology, Botany, Herbology, Anatomy, Hygiene, Medicine and Surgery. It is truly a timeless wisdom practice based on the centuries of careful observation and interpretation.

According to many scholars knowledge of Ayurveda originated from India and influenced the ancient Chinese system and medical system practiced in Greece. Hence Ayurveda is known as “Mother of all Healing”.

The knowledge of Ayurveda communicated to the Saints and Sages of India who are believed to receive their wisdom through meditation. Originally Brahmins were considered as physicians , But later people from other castes learned this art of healing and got their recognition as Vaidyas(originated from word Vedas).

Ayurveda the medical system came into prominence thousands of years before the so called scientific method, a challenge to the present scientific community to tests the conclusions and discover its integrity.

Ayurveda, though it’s origin is lost to the historians, was an oral tradition in India for many years until it was collected into the three main texts: The Charak Samhita (Father of medicine), The Sushrut Samhita( Father of Surgery who along with the health scientists of his time 2600 years ago conducted surgeries like cesareans, cataract, fractures and urinary stones) and The Ashtanga Haridayam.

Thereby Ayurveda started gaining its importance all over the world.
