NDIS information

Understanding the NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme can feel overwhelming at first. We're here to help you understand how it works and how to make the most of your plan.

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government initiative that provides funding to people with permanent and significant disability. It supports participants to access the services and supports they need to live a good life.

The NDIS is managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). Funding is individualised - each participant receives a plan tailored to their goals, needs, and circumstances.

Who is eligible?

To access the NDIS, you generally need to meet the following criteria:

Age

Be under 65 years of age when you first apply.

Residency

Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.

Disability

Have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities.

Early intervention

Children under 9 may also be eligible under early intervention criteria, even if their disability is not yet permanent.

How is NDIS funding managed?

There are three ways you can manage your NDIS funding:

Option 1

Agency managed

The NDIA pays your providers directly. You can only use registered NDIS providers.

Option 2

Plan managed

A plan manager handles payments on your behalf. You can use both registered and unregistered providers.

Option 3

Self managed

You manage your own funding and pay providers directly. You have the most flexibility in choosing supports.

NDIS support budgets we work with

Your NDIS plan is divided into budget categories. Vibe Therapies delivers supports funded under two of these — Core Supports and Capacity Building Supports.

Core Supports

Core Supports help you with everyday activities, your current disability-related needs, and to work towards your goals. This is usually the most flexible budget in your plan.

Support categories

Assistance with Daily Life

Support with personal care, household tasks, and daily routines — helping you live as independently as possible at home and in the community.

Assistance with Social, Economic & Community Participation

Support to access and participate in community activities, social events, recreational programs, and skill-building experiences.

How Vibe Therapies can help

  • Support workers for daily living and personal care
  • Community access and social participation

Capacity Building Supports

Capacity Building Supports are designed to build your independence and skills over time. These are goal-directed and aim to reduce your need for support in the long term.

Support categories

Improved Living Arrangements

Support to find and maintain appropriate housing and develop the skills needed to live more independently.

Increased Social & Community Participation

Therapeutic and skill-building supports that help you engage more confidently in social and community life.
